More Information

Coffee in Papua New Guinea is grown primarily by smallholder farmers cultivating just a few hectares of land throughout the Eastern and Western Highlands. Rich volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, cool mountain temperatures, and dense forest canopies create ideal growing conditions, allowing coffee cherries to mature slowly and develop exceptional sweetness, structure, and complexity.

Many of Papua New Guinea's Arabica varieties trace their origins to Jamaica Blue Mountain and Typica cultivars introduced during the early twentieth century. Combined with the country's rugged terrain and relatively isolated farming communities, these varieties have helped establish Papua New Guinea as one of the Asia-Pacific region's most distinctive specialty coffee origins.

ICT's Papua New Guinea program focuses on clean, washed coffees that showcase the origin's balanced sweetness, lively acidity, and notes of baking spice, cocoa, and tropical fruit. These coffees offer roasters a unique profile that bridges the classic characteristics of Latin American coffees with the complexity and depth found in coffees from Southeast Asia.
