What the Fara Foundation Does

The Farahani family built the Fara Foundation on a simple belief: thriving coffee communities begin with healthy, educated, supported families. At its center is Clínica Fara, open since 2010 and now one of the region's most trusted healthcare centers. In 2025 it served 17,680 patient charts and more than 200,000 consultations, all on a sliding fee scale.

  • Healthcare

Primary care, women's health, dental, chronic disease management, and physical therapy at Clínica Fara. $100 covers doctor examinations for a family of four.

  • Education

School supplies, uniforms, and seminars for families around the farms. $250 covers uniforms and supplies for two children for the year.

  • Food Assistance

Direct support for families in the Matagalpa region who need it.

  • Elder Care

Ongoing care for older members of the community, delivered through the clinic and local programs. $500 covers one month of care for a couple.

How ICT Participates

ICT contributes to the Fara Foundation for every pound of Fara Estate coffee we sell, and we ask our roasting partners to match us.

In the first year of the program, our combined contributions of ten cents per pound generated enough funding to support one physician at Clínica Fara. The coffee comes from three Farahani family farms above Matagalpa: Santa Rita, the original farm, and San Francisco, both at 3,650 ft, and El Diamante at 2,970 ft near the old mining town of San Ramón.

Match Our Contribution

When you buy Fara Estate coffee through ICT, you can match our contribution penny for penny. Ten cents a pound was enough to fund a physician's position at Clínica Fara in the program's first year. The more roasters who join, the more the Foundation can take on.
