Lisa Colon, Alice Peters and I recently returned from a week spent in Colombia. For Alice and I this was our first trip to origin – Lisa is a veteran of many origin trips across Asia, Latin America and Indonesia. The purpose of our trip was to attend the IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance) event in Bogota, held in conjunction with Expo Especiales Café de Colombia. After the expo we spent several days in the “coffee triangle” touring farms and mills.
I’ll be posting about the trip over the next several days. We learned a great deal of interest about changes in the Colombian coffee trade, developments in sustainability and gender equity, and concerns facing growers in the remarkable nation of Colombia.
